What you pay for KTV in Malaysia depends on four things: the type of venue, the time slot, your group size and the extras you order. This guide explains each part of the bill and how to estimate the total before you go.
The two pricing models
- Per-session pricing (family karaoke). You pay per person, or sometimes per room, for a block of time. Food and drinks are extra unless the package says otherwise.
- Minimum spend (KTV lounges). Your group commits to spending at least a set amount in the room. The room itself is not charged; drinks packages and food count towards the minimum.
How per-session prices work
Family karaoke prices are set in time bands. Weekday daytime slots are the cheapest, evenings cost more, and Friday nights, weekends and public holidays are the most expensive. As a rough guide, expect about RM15–RM40 per person for a session at a mall-based chain (figures from public price lists in 2026; check the venue before you go).
- Loud Speaker includes free-flow soft drinks and ice cream in the session price and lets children under seven in free.
- Red Box prices sessions by time band, with separate rates for students and seniors aged 60 and above.
- Neway prices per person by time slot, and its outlets stay open late.
How minimum spend works
If a room's minimum spend is RM2,000 and your group orders RM1,400 of drinks and food, you still pay RM2,000. If you order RM2,600, you pay RM2,600. Minimum spends at Malaysian KTV lounges vary widely. Small rooms at mid-range lounges often start around RM1,000–RM2,000, and large VIP rooms at premium venues can exceed RM5,000.
Lounges often publish packages that make the maths easier, for example a set of beer at a fixed price with a time window. Cloud 9 KTV in Penang currently advertises a beer set at RM298 with free room extension from midnight until 6am.
Service charge and SST
Most venues add:
- 10% service charge, kept by the venue. It is not a tip.
- SST (Sales and Service Tax), generally 8% on taxable services since 1 March 2024. Some venues charge 6% on food and non-alcoholic drinks and 8% on other items.
A RM30 per-person session becomes RM30 × 1.10 × 1.08 = RM35.64 per person. Menu prices marked "++" mean both charges are added later.

Session cost only. Food, drinks and extras ordered in the room are added on top.
How to pay less
- Go on a weekday afternoon. Daytime weekday slots are the cheapest at almost every chain.
- Use early sessions. Loud Speaker runs a discounted morning "Early K" slot at many outlets.
- Claim student or senior rates. Red Box and Loud Speaker both offer them; bring a student card or MyKad.
- Pick the right room size. Larger groups sometimes get a better per-person price on a room rate.
- At lounges, ask for package deals. A fixed-price drinks set is easier to budget than ordering bottle by bottle.
Frequently asked questions
How much is KTV per person in Malaysia?
Family karaoke usually costs about RM15–RM40 per person per session, depending on the outlet, the day and the time slot. Weekday daytime and Early-K sessions are the cheapest.
What is a minimum spend at a KTV lounge?
It is the least the room must spend on food and drinks. Small lounge rooms commonly start around RM1,000. If the bill comes in below the minimum, you still pay the minimum.
Are service charge and SST included in KTV prices?
Usually not. Most venues add a 10% service charge and SST on top of listed prices, so a RM300 bill becomes about RM356.
When is the cheapest time to go for KTV?
Weekday mornings and afternoons. Friday and Saturday nights, the eve of public holidays and school holidays are the most expensive and the busiest.
